It’s official: Pink bacon is the new black.
Just like fashion, baking goes through trends, and this year’s trend hands down is bacon. You see it everywhere; bacon infused cupcakes, chocolate dipped bacon, even a bacon sundae.
I’ll admit, sometimes it leaves me thinking one thing: “Ewwwwwww.”
This weekend I headed home and to one place in particular where bacon is king- The great State Fair of Texas, one of my absolute favorite things about Fall in Dallas!
Now I don’t know how it’s done in other states, but in Texas, the State Fair pretty much means one thing: fried food. Fried twinkies, fried snickers, chicken fried bacon, fried beer, fried PB&Js, fried oreos, fried jelly beans, fried butter, fried cheesecake, fried bubblegum…
I could go on but I’m sure you get the point.
With all of the attention bacon seems to be getting lately, I wasn’t surprised to see a Fried Bacon Cinnamon Roll on the list of award winners (Most Creative) for this year’s fair food.
I was surprised, however, by how delicious it was.
We probably walked at least a mile in search of this crazy concoction, but let me tell you- it was absolutely worth it.
Now in all fairness, I didn’t try this year’s Best Taste winner- Fried Jambalaya – but I was surprised the Fried Bacon Cinnamon Roll didn’t win that coveted category!
It was by far my favorite fried food from this year, and I hope it becomes a staple at the fair for years to come.
In the meantime, and for those of you who won’t be visiting the State Fair of Texas this year, I’ve come up with an easy at home version of this delicious fair fare.
Mini Cinnamon Bacon Bites
All I can say about these, is that they’re downright delicious. But don’t take it from me, take it from my taste tester:
The best part about these is that they’re super easy to make- They’re great for party treats, snacks, or even a quick breakfast.
1 package refrigerated cinnamon rolls
6 strips bacon, fried and crumbled
vegetable oil for frying
1 tbsp cinnamon
4 tbsp sugar
Directions:
1. Divide your cinnamon rolls into halves. Roll one side of each cinnamon roll half into your bacon crumbles.
2. Fold the dough around the bacon so it’s completely covered. Drop into heated oil (over medium heat), turning continuously, until each piece is golden brown.
3. Take your cinnamon rolls out of the oil and place them on a paper towel to drain excess grease. Using the icing bowl included in the cinnamon roll package, coat each cinnamon roll in icing, then sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar mixture.
4. These are best served warm, so serve immediately and enjoy!
It’s an easy fair food right in your own kitchen, and it’s definitely my new favorite fried recipe.

Stay tuned next week for the launch of the Sweets by Charity YouTube channel, Sweet Talk- I’m excited, I hope you are too!
Until next time,
Happy Baking!

I have always wanted to try chocolate covered bacon. I love sweet and salty!
